I think the problem is probably a bug in VLC. I think resetting the preferences through the command line isn't going to be a solution to this problem. This is not easy for someone who has not done this process before and VLC media player does not indicate if someone is successful after Enter is pressed. I will then know if I have done this process correctly in the past. I would appreciate it if you can send me a line by line procedure on using the command prompt method of setting preferences to default settings. Resetting preferences using Tools > preferences does not work to make VLC play CDs. I answered no to the crash report request and when I try again, VLC media player will start without crashing. On occasion, VLC media player will now crash with a crash notice at the start.
